Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources Generalist is responsible for carrying out activities regarding all facets of human resources including involvement in recruitment and retention, policy development, benefits administration, and employee relations, with a focus on employee engagement. Works proactively with management and serves as a resource to ensure HR policies are fairly administered and consistent with legislative requirements both Provincial and Federal.
- Assist with the administration of benefits programs and renewal processes. Provides recommendations and strategies based on trends, employee feedback, and best industry practices
- Acts as a liaison between employees and benefits service providers answering questions, updating, and maintaining employee records, escalating issues, and reconciling monthly statements and reports
- Disability management related to group benefits. This includes communication with the disabled employee, manager, and benefits service provider to facilitate return to work
- Assist with the performance evaluation process by providing communication and training to staff regarding the process
- Ensures all changes related to the performance evaluation process are updated and coordinated with benefits service providers and relevant departments
- Involvement in progressive discipline, including facilitating terminations, complaint investigation, and probationary monitoring
- Full recruitment life cycle from evaluating job requirements to onboarding initiatives, including student placements
- Evaluates current recruitment processes and works with management to identify gaps and implement solutions. Improves organization attractiveness by recommending new policies and practices; monitoring job offers and compensation practices; emphasizing benefits and perks. Attends networking activities as required
- Ensure onboarding/exit process is conducted effectively, including following up with all relevant departments
- Development, implementation and maintenance of human resources policies and procedures. Provides guidance to employees and managers
- Actively promotes a healthy workplace and assists with health and safety related matters including participation on the Joint Health & Safety Committee. Ensures meetings are held at regular intervals and issues are identified and resolved
- Administrative duties--develop and maintain HR-related templates such as communications, forms, and employee correspondence; prepares reports, presentations and corporate announcements as required; provides support for month-end activities (e.g. works with Finance)
- Assists with the development and maintenance of the annual HR budget
- Support professional development initiatives and programs as needed
- Assist employees and managers regarding employee relations issues by doing an intake of the issue, researching any necessary information, soliciting any necessary resources or experts, and then resolving the issue at hand
- Maintain and update HRIS and recruitment systems (Ceridian Dayforce, SuccessFactors, Teamtailor)
- Lead and/or participate in HR projects as required to ensure continuous improvement of programs.
- Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Travel:
- Thorough knowledge of health and safety, human rights, and employment standards legislation
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail while able to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels of the organization and ensure messages support the company culture
- Proficiency in MS Office and able to adapt to new technology quickly and efficiently
- Ability to use sound judgment when dealing with sensitive situations and confidential information
- Must be able to use tact, discretion and maintain information in the strictest of confidence
- Proven ability to build strong relationships and address employee concerns demonstrating a high level of professionalism and empathy
- A self–directed team player, who works collaboratively with a strong sense of customer service
- Travel will be required for recruitment networking activities, etc.
- Responsible to work extended hours as requested, and/or as required, to meet the job demands
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- Degree or diploma in Human Resources or related discipline
- CHRL designation or actively pursuing
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Human Resources
